Diary - GABF River Carnival : A Water Project

On Sunday, 14th July 2012, GAB Foundation organized “The River Carnival: A Water Project” in Zoo Negara. The one day event started at 9.00 am and ended at 5.00 pm. Zoo Negara and GABF were grateful that the General Deputy Secretary 1 of NRE, Dato’ Dr. Mohd Ali Bin Mohd Nor was willing to attend and launch the event.
Dato’ Haji Zaharin was given the honored to give the opening speech on behalf of Zoo Negara, followed by the speech of Tan Sri Saw Huat Lye, representative from GABF. The River Carnival was officially launched after the speech delivered by General Deputy Secretary 1 of NRE, Dato’ Dr. Mohd Ali Bin Mohd Nor.
Zoo Negara generously granted 50 % discount for the visitors who downloaded the River Carnival Voucher via the GABF official website. Crowds were entertained by the various interactive booths, specially designed to achieve the objective of awareness campaign. There were caricature booths, offering the drawing using non-hazardous paint to add the excitement.
Clowns stole the attention of the visitors with their funny acts. Three booths for exciting games were opened to entertain the public. The most exciting booth would be the Recycle Booth, aims to educate people on how to recycle the wastes such as bottles, paper bags and transform it into something useable, like cute handcrafts. GABF also conducted a ‘River Hunt’, more or less a treasure hunt, inside the zoo. There were six stations containing different tasks for the groups involved.
Almost 4000 visitors visited the booths held at Dataran Dato’ Ismail Hutson. The event is considered a success. The event’s message and motto, “Save Our Water” was successfully conveyed to the public.
Zoo Negara is looking forward to do such an event in the future.
