It is our pleasure to invite you to join us for the Ex situ Husbandry Amphibian workshop organized by Zoo Negara, which would be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from the 19th till the 22nd June 2009.

Last year 2008 was designated as the year of the frog, to create awareness and understanding of amphibians’ struggle in the wild. Their population decline and threat to extinction around the world were caused by habitat loss, global warming, invasive species, chemical pollution and now, a new fungal disease called Chytridiomycosis (‘Chytrid’).

It is hope that this workshop would promote the conservation message as far and wide as possible. More importantly, to identify the needs and gaps, in research and management of amphibian captive rearing management in Malaysia and among the neighboring countries. Ex situ conservation efforts are seen to be the only hope for survival of many amphibian species.

On behalf of the Malaysian Zoological Society (Zoo Negara), we look forward to seeing you at the workshop.

Warmest regards
